Cedar County Memorial Hospital is a Medicare-approved Swing Bed facility with 10 licensed Swing Beds. Our program provides skilled nursing and rehabilitative care for patients who no longer require acute hospital care but need additional time and support before safely returning home.

Swing Bed care may be appropriate for patients recovering from an illness, injury, surgery, or hospitalization who need continued skilled nursing or rehabilitation.

Our Swing Bed Services

Our multidisciplinary team works with each patient to develop an individualized plan of care. Services may include:
• Physical, Occupational, Speech, and Respiratory Therapy
• Skilled Nursing Care
• IV Medications and Fluids
• Wound and Skin Care
• Laboratory and Radiology Services
• Medication Management and Medical Monitoring
• Nutritional Support
• Patient and Family Education
• Discharge Planning and Care Coordination

Coverage & Insurance

Swing Bed coverage depends on your insurance plan and individual circumstances. Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and some private insurance plans may provide coverage when eligibility requirements are met.

You don't have to navigate the insurance process alone. Our Swing Bed Coordinator, works with patients, families, referring facilities, and Utilization Review to help determine eligibility, verify coverage, coordinate authorizations, and explain the next steps.

Every patient's recovery is different. Our goal is to help patients regain strength, improve mobility and independence, manage ongoing medical needs, and safely return home whenever possible.
We are proud to see patients make meaningful progress during their Swing Bed stay—from needing assistance with mobility and daily activities to becoming stronger, more independent, and confident in returning home.

How to Get Started

Swing Bed referrals can be made by hospitals, healthcare providers, or other appropriate referral sources. Each referral is reviewed individually to determine whether Swing Bed is an appropriate level of care.
